BRAVES TAKE ON THE LAKERS IN SCRIMMAGE TO PREPARE FOR HOME PLAYOFF GAME

By: Danny Lenarz

BENSON- On Tuesday, October 24th, the Braves volleyball team played Minnewaska Area Lakers in a scrimmage to prepare for their first round of playoffs against ACGC. Benson earned a home playoff game due to having a successful season record and picking up a high seed. The Braves felt it was extremely beneficial in preparing for their first round of playoffs by scrimmaging Minnewaska. When asked how the scrimmage went, Anna Gosson responded, “Playing in the scrimmage against Minnewaska prepared us for playoffs not only physically, but also mentally. We fixed any flaws critique our team for Thursday. During the scrimmage our main goal was to work on reading attack angles to better match ourselves against ACGC.” There was no winner or loser in this scrimmage because in the scrimmage neither team kept score. It was a great way for both teams preparing for their first round of playoffs.

Benson Schools Gardens

At Benson Schools that includes both the high school and elementary school. They have a garden at both schools that they get the vegetables for the lunch program. Normally Mrs. Loen is the one to plant and take care of the garden at the high school but she didn’t want to take care of it this year so I think Mr. Manzkes son planted and took care of it over the summer until he had to go back to school. After he went back to school the lunch ladies would go out and pick the vegetables that are ready to eat. They planted peppers, tomatoes, beans, cucumbers in the garden. All the vegetables are picked and what they didn’t pick we have been cleaning the garden and getting rid of the rest of them and getting the garden ready for winter will come before you know it.

When asked what the team will need to do in order to pull off the win against ACGC, Senior Courtney McNeill, responded, “Since we split with them we need to bring new plays to the game that they haven’t seen from us yet. Having a strong defense is key, and picking up their attack angles. We also need to play our best game at the net that we’ve played all season.” We will see what happens when the Braves battle the Falcons, hoping to win and move on to the second round of the playoffs.
